Musical Picks
From Elliot Cooper

Pretty Sick
Deep Divine

It’s one of my favourite albums from an indie artist these days, I love the pop grunge universe that reminds me of the early 00s. Her single Superstar is a hit that takes me out to space with a simple but efficient bass line and strong melodies.

Karen Dalton
In my Own Time

Another vibe that’s more earth-rooted, with some classical folk remastered. The songwriting is god-level and the melodies are breathtaking. Beautifully haunting songs, my heart was immediately struck when I heard her voice for the first time.

Kim Gordon
The Collective

The most badass woman in the world. She came out of nowhere and blew everyone away. With a trap-like beat and a noisy, trashy guitar sound, her single Bye Bye is a drop-the-mic song that puts Kim Gordon, former singer of Sonic Youth, in the spotlight again. I would recommend it.

DIIV
Frog in Boiling Water

My favourite album of 2024. I really dig their sound, it could be the soundtrack for a future dystopia or something. It makes me feel melancholic and hopeful in a way that’s very weird. A guitar and bass band, classic but modern, with exquisite lines and a psych/shoegazy sound. It always hits the spot.

PJ Harvey
Rid of Me

Since Steve Albini died I have been listening to a lot of his discography and of the albums he produced, Rid of Me is definitely one I’d choose, for sure. There’s a sort of alchemy between his characteristic sound – very raw, dark and without fancy – and the gracefulness of PJ and an intimacy where she takes us with her voice. It makes me want to destroy a hotel room. I mean, this is rock and roll, right?
